A Bit of History
Finished in 1886, this iron masterpiece was designed by a Belgian engineer who worked with Gustave Eiffel. It connects the Ribeira district in Porto to the wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. The upper level is for the Metro and walkers, while the lower level is for cars.
Did You Know?
Because it was built by a student of Eiffel, many people call it the "horizontal Eiffel Tower" due to its similar iron structure.
Local Tip
The best view of the Dom Luís I Bridge is from the Funicular dos Guindais. It’s a paid ride, but the views are absolutely worth it for photos. If you’re in a rush, take it going down as the line is usually much shorter than going up.
Be Aware!
Don’t get distracted by the view on the upper deck; the Metro passes right next to the walking path, so stay behind the yellow lines.
