A Bit of History
The Palácio de Cristal was inaugurated in the 1860s as an exhibition pavilion inspired by London’s Crystal Palace. Although the building was demolished in the 1950s, the landscaped gardens remain as one of Porto’s most important green spaces.
Did You Know?
The original Crystal Palace that gave the site its name was built in the 19th century and later demolished, but the surrounding gardens were preserved and redesigned into the current park.
Local Tip
Enter from different gates and take your time exploring the internal paths. Each section offers slightly different views over the Douro River and the Atlantic breeze makes it especially pleasant on warm days.
Be Aware!
Some areas of the gardens have uneven paths and stairs, which can be tricky to navigate for visitors with limited mobility or strollers, especially in less maintained sections.
