Aliados

Aliados

Porto’s main boulevard and civic heart.

A Bit of History

Avenida dos Aliados was developed in the early 1900s as part of an urban modernization plan. Over time, it became the city’s political and administrative center, framed by monumental buildings in Beaux-Arts and neoclassical styles.

Did You Know?

The avenue was designed in the early 20th century to represent modernity and power, replacing a dense cluster of older streets and turning the area into Porto’s main ceremonial axis.

Local Tip

Take time to walk the full length of the avenue from Praça da Liberdade downwards. The slight slope gives a natural sense of perspective and allows you to appreciate the architectural symmetry of the surrounding buildings.

Be Aware!

The avenue is often used for major events, demonstrations, and celebrations, which can lead to closures or heavy crowds without prior notice. Traffic in the surrounding area can also be congested, especially during rush hours.
